Draft horse event draws good crowd

Joe Biren brings his draft horses in the middle of the arena for final judging during the Murray County Draft horse show this past Saturday and Sunday.
Each year, six horse hitches across the United States and Canada accumulate points for the Classic Series at state and county fair and agricultural exhitibitions.
It was hot and dusty and the laughter was frequent at the sixth annual Murray County Classic Draft Horse Show held at the fairgrounds in Slayton over this past weekend.   

The hitches started arriving on Friday from Utah, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Iowa and Minnesota.  These beauties, Percheron, Belgian and Clydesdales, majestic in their stature, unparalleled in the performance they would give on Saturday and Sunday, might be considered pampered by the non-initiated of the draft horse show circut.  To their owners they are family, with names, distinct personalities and a willingness to get the job done in the show ring.
