One killed in boating accident at Lake Shetek

On Sunday, July 8, 2012, at 12:28 a.m., the Murray County Sheriff’s Office 911-Dispatcher received a report of a boat crash on Lake Shetek involving one boat. The caller indicated that a boat traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into the bridge on Valhalla Road.

Upon arriving at the scene responders found a 21 foot fiberglass boat wedged under the bridge at Valhalla Road. There were three occupants in the boat. Emergency personnel extricated two victims, Tamara Jo Altermatt, age 49, and Miranda Frankie Altermatt, age 19, both of Lamberton. The two were transported to Murray County Medical Center. The third person, Perry James Altermatt, age 49, of Lamberton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Agencies responding to the scene were the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Murray County Ambulance, Currie Fire Department, Lake Shetek 1st Responders, State Patrol, and the DNR. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. No further information is available at this time.
