Korean War Veteran awarded high school diploma

In 1951, Lee enlisted in the US Army.
Under a program begun 11 years ago, a Korean War Veteran was awarded his high school diploma at the Murray County Central High School in Slayton.

Korean War Veteran Leander "Lee" Oertli received his diploma as a surprise during the Veteran's Day program held on November 11th.

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and the state education agency, the Department of Children, Families and Learning, proposed to local school districts back in July 1999, that they award high school diplomas to Minnesota Veterans whose secondary education was interrupted by WWII.
