1926 - Mary Louise Clauson - 2009
Mary Clauson, the daughter of James and Mae Brown Wheeler, was born on July 12, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended Albert Walsman #3 Elementary School and graduated from Warren Central High School in 1944. After graduation, Mary worked for Farm Bureau Insurance. She played third base for the Farm Bureau softball team, was a member of the Farm Bureau Bowling Team and loved to roller skate. Mary was united in marriage to Richard Clauson on July 2, 1948 in Indianapolis. After their marriage they lived in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mary and Richard moved to Hadley, Minnesota where they raised their children and spent the majority of their lives. Mary worked in the office for the U.S. Government and later worked from her home as a Home Interiors representative. She was a member of the Hadley Lutheran Church. She also belonged to Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Hospice Volunteer. Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting and playing cards. She was an avid baker and everyone was always welcome in her home. Mary loved shopping, going to garage sales and finding bargains for everyone. She also loved taking care of others and spending time with her family. She enjoyed cookbooks, magazines and fabric. Mary also enjoyed the family lake home on Island Lake, near Park Rapids, Minnesota. She entertained many friends and family through the years.
After Richard and Mary retired, they moved to Alexandria, Minnesota. She spent time with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, she also enjoyed visiting casinos. Mary's last day was spent doing what she loved. She had breakfast with Richard, talked with her children and went for a drive. Dick and Mary had lunch together before she suffered a massive stroke. She was taken to Breckenridge Hospital on October 30. Mary passed away at the Knute Nelson Nursing Home on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the age of 83.
Survivors include her husband Richard Clauson; three children and their spouses: Allan (Pamela) Clauson, Slayton, MN, Valerie (Allen) Fincher, Sioux Falls, SD and Barbara Klepper, Alexandria, MN; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Helen Martindale and two brothers: William and James Curtis Wheeler.
Funeral services were held at the Hadley Lutheran Church, Hadley, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009 with the Rev. Kerry Boese officiating. The organist was Dianne Johnson and the flutist Juli Baecker. The pallbearers were Jason Gordon, Nick Hanson, Mike Clauson, Cole Bredlow, Derick Fincher and Russell Bonnstetter.
