Daryl Widboom – Obituary

1927 – Daryl Richard Widboom – 2019

Daryl Widboom was born on July 1, 1927 on the family farm east of the Swedish Baptist Church north of Slayton, Minnesota.  His great grandfather Gus Widboom along with a few others formed the original Swedish Baptist Church (Lake Sarah Baptist). Two years later his parents Herbert and Mayme Widboom moved three miles east of Slayton where Daryl enjoyed farming with his dad. Daryl and Isabelle Bloom were married on June 8, 1949 and raised four children on the new homestead three miles east of Slayton.  They farmed until 1982.  Daryl loved raising cattle and at the end of the day for the last feeding you would see him walking through talking with his herd.  Many a time he would stand at the end of the drive when the last semi pulled out with his cherished herd.  Daryl enjoyed fishing, lake activities and camping at many area lakes.  There were many trips to the “river” in S.D. with late night fish fry’s.  After retiring he and Isabelle moved to Marco Island, Fl.  They spent several years traveling on the road enjoying the beautiful countryside and visiting family and friends.  They returned to Slayton in 1999 and a short time later Isabelle passed away on March 1, 2006.  Daryl passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Windom, MN at the age of 92.

Survivors include his four children and their spouses, Randy and Sandra Widboom, TX, Sharon and Gerald Bartholomaus, AZ, Brian and Shannon Widboom, OR and Shelley and Henry Moreno, FL, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one sister, Bernice Schmidt, AZ.
