1933 – Curtis Lowell Schmidt – 2016
Curt Schmidt was born on May 7, 1933 on the family farm in Slayton Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Rudolf and Elsie Storm Schmidt. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. On June 15, 1954 he and Darlene Jarmer were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed the family farm near Slayton and raised their four children. Curt and Darlene enjoyed spending summers at the cabin and winters in Arizona. Curt lived on the same farm his entire life. Curt passed away at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, Minnesota on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the age of 83. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton. Curt enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Darlene Schmidt, Slayton, MN; four children and their spouses: Nancy and Gary Crowley, Marshall, MN, Terry and Natalie Schmidt, Slayton, MN, Garry and Kelli Schmidt, Slayton, MN and Karen Schmidt and Todd Swanson, Slayton, MN, 13 grandchildren and their families: Cory and Amber Crowley, Andy, Lori and Daylin, Skyla, Ryker, and Hayden Crowley, Kelsy, John and Carson, Braxton and Avaya Coulter, Ashley, Ross and Ella, Alea, and Kenley Vig, Cassidy, Chuck and Abram, Elyse, and Charlie Paulzine, Tj, Frankie and Brandt, Emery and Rhett Schmidt, Brittany, Luke and Thea, Krew and Finn Schneider, Alyssa and Jordan Slusser, Hannah Schmidt, and Ciarra Schmidt, Cody, Casey and Cole Teiken; one brother Leland Schmidt, Avoca, MN; one sister Phyllis Baumann, Marshall, MN and one brother-in-law, Ken Jarmer, Sioux City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Larry Schmidt; infant sister Fern Schmidt; six siblings: Leota Short, Reuben Schmidt, Mavis Jones, Eleanor Nimerfroh, Dale Schmidt, and Rudy Schmidt.
Memorial services were held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Doug Minton officiating. The organist was Kathy Schwartz with special music by Sheila Crowley. The honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
