Fulda’s Mike Schaffer was voted in as the 2018 Minnesota State American Legion Commander at the 2017 Department Convention held Thursday, July 13th through Saturday, July 15th at the Shooting Star Casino and Conference Center, Mahnomen, MN. It was the 99th State Convention for the American Legion and the 98th Convention for the Auxiliary.
Schaffer is a member of the Lionel Boudreau American Legion Post #322, Currie, Minnesota, and is currently the Post Adjutant. For the Post, he has served as a Finance Officer for 5 years, and on the Club Board and Bingo Committee. He holds a paid-up-for-life membership.
Schaffer was his Post’s commander for two years and the Second District Commander from 1998-1999. He was also the district membership director and adjutant.
Schaffer’s list of service as an American Legion member at the Department level includes Membership Director – 2007-2008, Vice Commander – 2009-2010, Sergeant-at-Arms – 2001-2002, Boys State Counselor, Chairman of both Trophy and Awards and Children and Youth Committees, along with vice chairman for Children and Youth, and the Americanism Committee.
