Mark it on your calendar! Corn Beef, Cabbage, and Comedy are scheduled for Saturday, March 16th at Fulda Community/Legion Hall. Happy hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the meal served at 7 p.m. An adult humor comedy show will follow.
On the menu (catered by Brian’s Supper Club) is a house salad with ranch dressing, Kaci’s GREEN Mac ‘N’ Cheese, Corn Beef ‘N’ Cabbage, a dinner roll, and bread pudding.
Master of Ceremonies for the comedy show is Fulda’s own Andy Witzel. He will share some of his comedy during the show, as will Ben Marcotte and Casey Flesch. A mystery guest is also scheduled to make an appearance.
Witzel began doing comedy a number of years ago. “I went to an open mike show and signed up, got up on stage and did it. That was the bucket list. I thought I might be a bit narcissistic and that it would basically be easy because I make people laugh all of the time. I went away from comedy for a time after that,” Witzel said.
But then, two years ago, he presented the best man’s speech at a friend’s wedding. “Afterward, people came up to me and told me I had missed my calling and that I should be doing comedy. What? Missed my calling? I was only twenty-eight at the time and knew I had time to do more if I wanted to. Mostly out of spite for that comment, I thought ‘I’m going to get back into it!’ I went back to open mikes and doing comedy for me has just grown from there.”
Witzel credits Mike Brody, House of Comedy, Bloomington, with helping him in his ventures. “Mike posted on Facebook ‘If you’re not wanting to go and do comedy all of the time, then you might just be fooling yourself. It might not be what you really want.’ After that, I started doing three open mikes per night. After a full days’ work, I’d go do another full days’ work in the comedy clubs.”
