When she looks back on her career at the Murray County Medical Center, Chief Financial Officer Renee Logan does so with fondness while retiring from the position that she has held for 12 years.
A native of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Logan has, with the exception of a short stint working for her family’s business, been in the healthcare profession throughout her entire career.
Logan first acquired her collegiate degree in social work from the University of South Dakota and later went on to earn a degree in business administration and accounting from Northern State University in Aberdeen.
In that time, she notes that she has seen a lot of changes – such as the way that hospitals are reimbursed for services from the health insurance companies. There are increasing challenges for the institutes to recoup the cost of services, Logan explains, noting, “This hospital has been very strong through the years. It’s had its ups and downs of course, but cash flow wise has been excellent.”
There are constant changes coming down the pike every year, the retiring accountant says, and keeping up with the flow of new regulations can be a challenge. “And that’s why I’m retiring,” she says. “You always get more knowledge as you go and all of a sudden you reach a point where you can’t do it and then it’s time to retire.”
