Pristine grounds, a profusion of flowers in boxes at the windows of cabins, a portion of the lake filled with play equipment, a huge slippery slide. This is what greets a visitor at Camp Shetek when they arrive after following the signs pointing the way down gravel roads and through cornfields.
A first time visitor might wonder, ‘Am I lost? Is there really a camp out here?’ The answer would soon become apparent when they turn into the grounds at the large sign that boldly states, “Shetek Baptist Camp.”
It is supper time, thus the reason for the quiet on the grounds. But, step inside the large dining hall and you are greeted first with the enticing aroma of food coming from the very modern kitchen and then with a wall of voices that come from the happy campers eagerly consuming their meal.
