The Slayton and Lake Wilson volunteer fire departments along with the Murray County Ambulance spent the majority of their day off this past Saturday doing a simulation fire training.
Members gathered at the Kim Schreier home north of Hadley to gain a better understanding of how fire behaves. The day consisted of setting up planning session and determine the ability to maintain a water supply while the burn proceeded. The training consisted of learning fire behaviors inside a room including what water does and doesn’t do when applied to the fire. Different training sessions were applied throughout the day until the structure burned to the ground later that day. According to Slayton Fire Chief Paul Louwagie the training helps firefighters understand the dangers as well as building confidence.
