1930 – Amy Louise Petersen – 2017
Amy Petersen was born on February 11, 1930 on the family farm in Hubbard County, Minnesota to Julius and Louise Johanning Sitz. She grew up near Park Rapids, Minnesota and attended Park Rapids High School. On July 14, 1946 she and Loren Petersen were married in Park Rapids. Following their marriage Amy made her home in California and worked for the telephone company while Loren was stationed in Japan. In 1948 they moved to Florence, Minnesota for 10 years before moving to Slayton, Minnesota. Amy worked for Campbell Soup in Worthington, Minnesota and also helped Loren with the family owned dairy equipment business. Loren passed away on March 14, 1994. Amy also worked at the Slayton Nursing Home for 25 years retiring in 2010. In April 2013 Amy became a resident of the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Slayton. Due to failing health Amy moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on July 11, 2017 and passed away there on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the age of 87. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Amy lived for her husband, children and grandchildren. They were the highlight of her life. Amy enjoyed fishing trips with her family, watching movies with her grandchildren and listening to country music. She spent many hours tending to her flower gardens and enjoying their beauty. Amy had traveled to Jamaica and Hawaii and loved to reminisce of her time spent there.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses: Linda Granger, Brooklyn Park, MN, Tim and Bonnie Petersen, Hadley, MN, Alan and Deb Petersen, Slayton, MN, and Scott and Tonja Petersen, Menahga, MN; 11 grandchildren: Chris Granger, Greg and Sarah Granger, Jodie Granger, Jackie and Darren Veldhuisen, Caitlyn Petersen and Nick Harmsen, Alex Petersen and Jessica Kruse, Ben and Veronique Petersen, Missy and Nate Schunke, Emily Petersen and Lucas Christoffer, Nicole and Sopan Seth and Scottie Petersen Jr.; 18 great grandchildren and one sister-in-law Clara Mae Mahaffey, San Bernardino, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Loren; grandson Lee Michael Petersen and one sister Virginia and her husband Russell Petersen.
Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. The organist was LaDean Lang with special music by Judy LaBoda.
