1948 – Allen Prins – 2019
Allen Prins was born on November 24, 1948, to Peter C. and Gertrude (Peters) Prins at his parents’ home in Chandler, Minnesota. He attended Chandler Christian School through eighth grade then attended Chandler Public School where he graduated. Allen enlisted in the U.S. Navy for three years, where he was in the USS John C. Calhoun SSBN-630 submarine for three months. When he returned home from the Navy, Allen worked with his brothers for their father who owned the Prins Grain Elevator in Chandler. On Jan. 13, 1972 he married Sue Hunter from Edgerton, Minnesota. They lived in Chandler and were blessed with three children Jason, Eric, and Dana. Allen, Sue, and the family moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where Allen took a job with Vigorena Feeds as a salesman for one year before moving back to Chandler where Allen and his three brothers bought the family business from their father. After many years they sold the business and Allen worked for New Vision Co-Op out of Brewster, Minnesota as a feed salesman. Allen then was asked to manage the New Vision Feed Mill by Magnolia, Minnesota. He worked there as a manager until he retired because of health reasons on November 16, 2018. Allen was a member of the Chandler Christian Reformed Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He also served on the Chandler Christian School board, was a member of the Chandler Fire Department and the Chandler American Legion. He enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing and was very faithful in going to his grandkids sporting events and school programs. Allen died Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at the age of 70, at the Pipestone County Hospice House with his family by his side.
Those blessed to have shared his life are his wife Sue of 47 years; their son Jason and wife Tami and their children Ireland, Sawyer, Easton, Lincoln and Canyon, Sioux Falls, SD; son Eric and wife Dionne and their children Shayla, Jazlynn and Trevin, Edgerton, MN; daughter Dana and husband Justin Snyder and children Tayton, Cole, Mason and Londyn, Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers: Gary and Charlene Prins, Dave and Dianne Prins, Bob and Faith Prins and one sister Kay and Greg Dyk; mother-in-law Anna Marie Hunter; many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Gert Prins; grandparents; infant granddaughter Sailor Prins; father-in-law Duane Hunter; brother-in-law Jeff Hunter; and nephew Todd Garthright.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Josh Christoffels and the Rev. Greg Dyk officiating. Burial at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery. Military honors accorded by the Chandler American Legion.
