The Murray County Central Rebels traveled to Worthington on Saturday afternoon to play in the South Sub Section 3A quarterfinals. It’s better known as Super Saturday as eight teams come together in one gym to play for the right to advance their season at least one more game.
The Rebels have had some recent success in the playoffs but for many of the Rebels this was their first action as starters and for others it would be their last. The Rebels took on the third seeded Adrian Dragons. The Rebels were under dogs on paper but during the season the MCC won the only match up of the year by more than 20 points. MCC did not have the same mind frame as the first game between the two teams this year and the Dragons took advantage for the win.
The Rebels struggled in the first half shooting the ball. You don’t win many games when you make just 18% of your shots. Some of the misses came from the Dragon defense but many of them were just missed. What was strange is that MCC did make six of eight free throws which is not like them.
Adrian didn’t shoot that well either making just 35% of their shots from the field. The biggest difference between the two teams in the first half was the foul situation. MCC played defense with their hands way too much. That resulted in a ton of fouls and many of those were shooting fouls. Adrian went to the free throw line 18 times in the first half and they made 13. When a team starts reaching with their hands and getting out of position with their feet the fouls come easily.
