Wanting to break the winter blues? Six years ago a group of neighbors on Lake-view Drive decided to have a little fun. “It started out as neighborhood outing and kept growing from there,” shared Al Wolf, one of the organizers of this year’s Winterfest event. “If you live in this country, you have to make fun of it.” Ice golf, croquet, bean bag toss, fishing with the youngsters, along with fire pits – making it a fun, social event.

The past two years the event has been hosted by Key Largo. However, due to the seasonal operation of Key Largo, the future of the fun winter event was uncertain. So a group of citizens, some included in the original event, decided to step up so Winterfests didn’t die.

They reached out to Marv Nysetvold at the Lake Shetek Bible Camp as a possible venue to host the event. He was more than happy to work together and make the event possible. The group has been meeting over the last six weeks to pull together an agenda for this year.

The Lake Shetek Winterfest is open to everyone and is scheduled Saturday, January 26th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will be hosted at Shetek Lutheran Bible Camp on Keeley Island. Outside activities include a fishing derby for kids with prizes for all participating. The MCC FFA group will be assisting kids with holes and bait will be provided. Other activities will be ice bowling, cross country skiing (lessons and snowshoes provided if needed), ice golf, snowshoeing, and horse-drawn sleigh rides.
