The MCC Marching Band traveled to Luverne this past Saturday. Now in its 68th year, Luverne’s Tri-State Bank Festival is the longest-running marching band festival in the region. The annual parade and field competition draws bands from Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota with more than 2,500 students participating.
The 2018 lineup features 23 participating bands, with 17 bands performing in the parade and 13 performing on the field. The morning parade traveled along Main Street with judging near the corner of Main and McKenzie.
In Class A Murray County Central earned first place tallying 61.0 points. The band received several good comments from the judges including good sound according to director Mike Helgeson. Coming in second was Adrian with 60.5, followed by Garretson (57.5), Boyden-Hull (54,8), George-Little Rock (54.7).
Helgeson said the band has several things to work on before heading to the Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls next Saturday.
