1927-Alice Theis Bergman-2018
Alice Theis Bergman, the daughter of Theodore and Irma (Arp) Janke, was born on May 31, 1927 in Slayton, MN. She grew up on the family farm south of Avoca, MN and attended grade school in Avoca and then Slayton High School. Alice was united in marriage to Conrad Theis on March 29, 1945 in Avoca. After their marriage they lived in Avoca and then on farms in the Avoca and Fulda areas until 1964. Then due to Conrad’s health they moved back to Avoca. Conrad passed away in October of 1966. Alice continued to make her home in Avoca until she married Paul Bergman on August 12, 1972. They made their home on the South Lake in Fulda. Paul passed away in March of 2004. She remained at home until May of 2005 when she moved to Maplewood Court Assisted Living in Fulda. In June of 2018 she entered the Maple Lawn Senior Care and passed away there on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the age of 91. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN where she was baptized and confirmed. She also belonged to the Lutheran Church Women where she was a past President and ALC Tyler District Synod Past President. Alice belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Donald E. Ewy Post in Avoca where she was a Past President and the Fulda Pink Ladies. Alice enjoyed camping, reading, playing cards and bible study.
Survivors include her daughter, Julene Theis of Sioux Falls, SD; loving friend who was like a daughter, Jolene Armbrust of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Mary Theis of Vacaville, CA; cousins and many nieces and nephews and her beloved grand dog Katie. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands and brother, Donald Janke.
Funeral Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church Slayton, MN at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 6, 2018 with Pastor Joyce Tollefson-Capp officiating. The organist is Nancy Lee Pierson. The soloist is Heidi Winter. The honorary pallbearers are Karen Onken, Kathleen Winter, Barb Gerdes, James Theis, Don Ebbinga and Mavis Simonson. Interment at Faith Lutheran Cemetery Avoca, MN.
