Owen Olsem is eight years of age and will be attending third grade at Fulda Elementary School when the doors open this fall. He is also a member of the Bondin-Belfast 4-H Club and is in his third year of being a Cloverbud in the Murray County 4-H Program.
Olsem recently shared the projects that he has prepared for this year’s fair.
For one of his projects, Olsem found the lid to an old tin garbage can l that had a clip on the inside that was just large enough to fit over his arm. Using his imagination, Olsem turned the lid into a shield as part of the armor that he wore for his 2015 Halloween costume. He used red, white and blue acrylic paints and a paint brush, to add color to the shield.
The items that he shared next were a set of vehicles made from Legos®. He had created a combine, a tractor, and a semi-tractor, complete with flat-bed trailer, that were made to haul the tractor. When asked what patterns he had used to put the vehicles and equipment together, Olsem shook his head no and said, “I just did it.” Although he did not keep track of the time spent building the items, he thought that it took about two days to work on the semi and trailer.
