Larry Kalas Jr. was born on December 4, 1970 in Slayton, Minnesota to Larry and Henrietta VanderBush Kalas. He grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1990. Following high school, Larry attended Pipestone Vo-tech for Mechanics and graduated in 1992. Larry worked at the Slayton School as a custodian and later at Monogram Meats in Chandler, Minnesota. He currently was working at Fey Industries in Edgerton, Minnesota. Larry passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the age of 47. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton where he served as an usher. Larry enjoyed camping, fishing, walking the trails and car races.
Survivors include his father Larry Kalas Sr., Slayton, MN; three sisters: Joyce and Kevin Schreier, Avoca, MN, Lori and John Palaschak, Luverne, MN, and Diane and Cal Harms, Freeport, MN and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death his mother Henrietta Kalas; grandparents: Arnold and Loretta Kalas, Clarence and Rena VanderBush and nephew Tyler Schreier.
Funeral services were held at United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Ethanie Schmidt officiating. The organist was Janet Voges with special music by Sue Muck. The pallbearers were Larry Kalas Sr., John Palaschak, Dale Kalas, Bill Willhite, Bob Willhite Jr. and Roger Eisfeld.
