On Saturday January 27, 2018, eight FFA members competed at the Sioux Empire 4-H/FFA Youth Livestock Judging Contest. There were two teams, the Murray County 4-H team, which consisted of four 8th graders, Ryan Risacher, Taylor Ford, Camdyn Kluis, and Sophie Larson. The Murray County FFA team, which consisted of four 7th graders, Derek Kluis, Jessica Miller, Madilyn Clarke, and Jackie Vos. They judged eight different classes. Two classes being Market Steers, one class of Simmental Breeding heifers, one class of breeding does, one class of market goats, one class of market lambs, and two classes of swine.
The top two individuals from the Murray County 4-H team was Ryan Risacher, he scored a 328, and got 51st place, Sophie Larson scored a 323, and got 63rd place. The top two individuals for the Murray County FFA team was Madilyn Clarke who scored a 263 and got 193rd place, Derek Kluis scored a 258 and got 201st place. Overall the Murray County 4-H team scored a total of 1236 points and finished in 22nd place. The Murray County FFA team scored a total of 979 points and finished in 51st place.
