WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar’s “Minnesota Morning” featured breakfast pastries from Slayton Bakery in Slayton. Klobuchar has visited dozens of Minnesota communities in recent months and after tasting favorite local foods, she decided to showcase these Minnesota specialties at her weekly Thursday morning coffee gatherings in her Washington, D.C. office.
“Slayton Bakery offers a place for the community to come together,” said Klobuchar. “It is a great example of a local business that helps boost our economy. I was delighted to serve their treats for my guests here in Washington.”
Slayton Bakery is located on Broadway Avenue and is owned by Troy and Kim DeGreeff. They offer a variety of baked goods that are made fresh daily. This local favorite is known for its breads, buns, cookies, and decorative cakes.
Troy and Kim purchased the local bakery from Kim’s parents, Kurt and Karla eight years ago.
The DeGreeff’s were contact a little over a month ago regarding the baked goods order. They shipped out the muffins and turnovers last Monday for the Thursday morning meeting. According to them, this is the third year Klobuchar’s office has contacted them to provide baked goods.
