Jottings by Jerry – October 18

The leaves are falling and the harvest is in full swing but they are going around the low ground. There was the untimely rains that we didn’t need. The grass still needs mowing on a weekly basis. Our trees are outstanding in their assorted colors of leaves. We have had few years that have compared to this year.

The smell of wood smoke is in the air as we enter another new heating season. The comfort from wood heat is very good but the visual joy of a fireplace also adds to the overall feeling. That feeling is shattered when the lady of the house loudly announces that she can smell smoke. Then you know it is time to adjust the damper and hope that takes care of the problem. Otherwise, I can just sit back in the glow and warmth of a wood burning fireplace. I have a good supply of wood that will last a few years or more.

A teenage boy with spiked hair, nose ring, and baggy clothes was overheard telling a friend, “I don’t really like to dress like this.”

“Then why do you?” asked the friend.

“It keeps my parents from dragging me everywhere with them.”

The best friend ever is the one that helps us to think our noblest thoughts, put forth our best efforts, and to be our best selves.
