In the 1960’s Gene Pitney sang the following lyrics and today, in 2017, they seem to apply to a couple who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last week with small gatherings of old friends.  … My love is higher than a mission bell…Deeper than a wishing well…Stronger than a magic spell…My Love for you is wider than the widest sea…Longer than a memory…Sweeter than a honey tree…

Carroll and Florence Tutt were married on August 2, 1947 and called Ellsborough Township their home for over 60 years before moving to Oak Avenue in Slayton.  What a happy couple they are!  Their love story is real and their admiration, care and love for one another is tangible.  Seventy years is a long time to be married to the same person and maybe a big party was in the works?  Not for this couple.  “We aren’t party people,” Florence laughed, looking toward her husband who shook his head in agreement.

The Tutt’s three daughters, all living in the Minneapolis area, are planning the gatherings at their home in Slayton.  “They are doing everything, even bringing the food!” Florence said with pride evident in her voice.  The daughters are Cathy, Carolyn and Kimberly.  Their son Jim lives and farms in Ellsborough township and a grandchild lives on the farm where the Tutt’s raised their four children.  There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
