1929 – Betty Haar – 2017
Betty Haar, the daughter of William and Odelia (Miller) Hermeling, was born on June 30, 1929 in Iona Township, Murray County, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm and attended St. Columba Catholic School in Iona, Minnesota and graduated from the Fulda High School, Fulda, Minnesota. She then worked as a telephone operator and the bank in Fulda. Betty was united in marriage to Harold Haar on February 1, 1945 in Iona, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in Fulda and owned and operated Oak Grove Dairy and Haar’s Clothing Store in Fulda. Betty moved to the Maple Lawn Campus in Fulda in 2011. Betty passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Sanford Medical Center in Worthington, Minnesota at the age of 88. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church where she belonged to the F.C.C.W. She a member of the Fulda American Legion Auxiliary and a charter member of the Fulda Pink Ladies. She enjoyed quilting, reading, ceramics, golfing, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her three daughters: Kathy (Jerry) Van Oort, Henderson, MN, Jane (Steve) Alpert, Lakeville, MN and Cindy (Lowell) Meier, Fulda, MN; eight grandchildren: Jen (Zach) Bakke, Maggie (Randy) Fisher, Katie (Greg) Nuss, Jeremy Van Oort, Jamie Alpert, Laura (Andy) Schmitz, Hilary (Aaron) Clay and Adrienne Meier; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Donna Kremer, May Johnson, Mary Olson and Ivona (Tom) Risacher; two brothers: Bill (Shirley) Hermeling and Larry Hermeling and two sisters-in-law: Alicia “Lolly” Morningstar, Westbrook, MN and Betty Hermeling, Fulda, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda assisted the family with arrangements. Send condolences online at www.totzkefuneralhome.com.
