Southwestern Minnesota Child Care Recruitment Campaign

As I’m sure everyone is aware, there has been expressed interest in child care issues in our communities, big or small.  It seems as if we all know a family that is struggling to find infant day care, or someone moving into our community that needs daycare for any age.  As our population ages, mom and dad are moving off the farm, a son moves on to the home place, gets married, and another generation begins.  This new family needs daycare.  In past days, it was the choice to work (especially for moms) verses having to work.  There are so many more children who need daycare because of the necessity for two parent incomes.

Since 1989 Child Care Aware at SMOC (Southwestern Minnesota Opportunity Council) has been working in southwest Minnesota to:  help parents find child care; provide child care data to businesses and communities; provide child care programs with training and resources; and to create more child care options/recruit child care providers.  Child Care Aware is a non-profit organization and serves all communities and families in Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, and Rock counties.  Child Care Aware is funded by the MN Department of Human Services to promote quality, affordable, and accessible childcare.
