Jottings by Jerry – May 10

Monday our high temperature was in the mid-eighties. It will cool down for the rest of the week. Field work started in earnest the end of last week.

This weekend we will be honoring Mother with her day. Consider flowers, dining out or in, just spend some time together. However you do it, she will be pleased.

I spent a little time cutting up wood and splitting it. Yes, thankfully I had help. She offered no complaints but good suggestions which did improve things. I don’t believe I harmed anything in the back but the muscles indicated they have not been used. So I will go slowly for awhile till the body gets used to it? There is time to get it all done, but winter is coming.

We spent some time at the SMSU Graduation Ceremony Saturday. It was amazing how many from our area were graduating. Some were familiar and some I didn’t know as well. The gym was packed and the class was large. It was a good program.

The Last Will and Testament

Mr. Doug Smith is on his deathbed and knows the end is near. His nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons, are with him.

He asks for 2 witnesses to be present and a camcorder be in place to record his last wishes, and when all is ready he begins to speak:

“My son, Bernie, I want you to take the Mayfair houses.

“My daughter Sybil, you take the apartments over in the east end.”

“My son, Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the City Centre.

“Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the river.”

The nurse and witnesses are blown away as they did not realize his extensive holdings, and as Doug slips away, the nurse says, “Mrs. Smith, your husband must have been such a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property”.

The wife replies, “No, he had a paper route.”
