1931 – John Virgil Hanten – 2017

John Hanten, the son of John and Elizabeth (Arens) Hanten, was born on April 11, 1931 in Dundee, Minnesota. He grew up near Dundee and attended school in Heron Lake, Minnesota. In May of 1948 he entered the U.S. Navy and served until he was discharged in May of 1952. John was united in marriage to Monica Ramert on December 29, 1952 in Fulda, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in Worthington, Minnesota and he worked as an Engineer for Armors in Worthington until his retirement in 1996. In 2005 they moved to Fulda and made their home there. John passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, Minnesota at the age of 86. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda and was member of the Knight of Columbus. John also belonged to the Worthington VFW Post 3958. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Monica Hanten, Fulda, MN; seven children: Deb (Dean) Ager, Duluth, MN, Dianne (Jan Erik) Krohn, Oslo, Norway, Denise (Randy) Dierks, Fulda, MN, David Hanten, St. Joseph, MN, Donna Hanten, St. Michael, MN, Dorene (Nick) Kellen, Sioux Falls, SD and Dixie (Aaron) Manthei, Rochester, MN; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Malloy, Sioux Falls, SD and George Hanten, Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Erica Krohn, two brothers and six sisters.
Funeral Services St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting celebrating. The organist is Mary Ann Boom. The song leader is Lloyd Winter. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
