Eden Bengtson, 2013, Murray County Central graduate has returned to her roots. Bengtson will be joining Cheryl Carney at Slayton Beauty Shop beginning February 1st.

Bengtson has always loved everything about hair beginning with doing styles and box coloring people’s hair back in seventh grade. “I really like how pretty the hair looked and the different colors,” added Bengtson.

She decided to pursue cosmetology beginning on August 23rd, 2014. Bengtson attended Lakes Area Technical Institute in Watertown. LATI ranked fifth in the nation and also had a really go esthetician program which trains students to administer facials, aromatherapy, hair skin care and nails. Part of her decision to attend in South Dakota was the requirement of the 2100 hours of learning – which is the requirement to work in South Dakota and Iowa. Bengtson looked to move closer to home and transferred to Avalon School of Cosmetology in Worthington in April of 2015. There, she was also offered the 2100 hour option of training. For Bengtson the smaller class size really appealed to her. “Classes at LATI were normally around 75 where as in Worthington, it was around 25,” commented Bengtson. “It was more personal and offered more hands-on training.”

Bengtson graduated early February 2016 and began working at Cost Cutters in Marshall. She remained there until this past December.

The opportunity to join Cheryl Carney at Slayton Beauty Shop came to the forefront.
