1928 – Dora Mae Laura Pommier – 2017
Dora Mae Pommier was born December 27, 1928 on the family farm south of Currie, Minnesota to Clarence and Lillian Johanson Ackerman. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in 1946. On September 8, 1949 she and Leon “Buster” Pommier were married at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed southeast of Currie and raised their five children. Dora Mae started driving school bus in 1979 for the Tracy School District and drove until 1993 when she retired. In 1989 they retired from farming but remained on the farm until 2009 when they moved to Trail Ridge Senior Living in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 2012 Dora Mae moved to Woodbury Senior Living in Woodbury, Minnesota. Buster passed away on May 3, 2016. Dora Mae passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the age of 88 in Woodbury, Minnesota. Dora Mae was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie where she was active in the Altar Society. Dora Mae enjoyed traveling, quilting, embroidering, crocheting and playing cards.
Survivors include her five children and their spouses: Gregory and Sandy Pommier, Currie, MN, Vickie and Rodney Kuhl, Rumford, ME, Kevin and Kathy Pommier, Florence, SD, Rex and Deb Pommier, Harrisburg, SD and Lisa Swanson, Maplewood, MN; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four siblings and their spouses: Daniel and Evie Ackerman, Tracy, MN, Darlene Schmidt Tracy, MN, Diane and Dwight Smith, Hastings, MN, Lois and Marvin Ferguson, Lake Wilson, MN; two sisters-in-law: Carol Ackerman, Slayton, MN, Leone Ackerman, Slayton, MN and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Buster; two brothers: David and Robert Ackerman and two sisters and their husbands: Betty and Harold Bjornebo and Mary and William Mahon.
Memorial services were held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, MN on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor R. Paul Heiting officiating. The organist was Patty LeClaire. The song leader was Hollie Pommier. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton was entrusted with arrangements.
