SLAYTON, Minn. 11/04/2019 – Three college scholarships were awarded at the annual Murray County 4-H Awards Celebration on November 3. Receiving 4-H scholarships were Jett Davis, Lakers 4-H Club, Emma Wehking, Bondin Belfast 4-H Club, and Megan Busman, Fenton Friends 4-H Club.
Michelle Zenk, Cameron 4-H Club, and Megan Busman, Fenton Friends 4-H Club, were honored with the prestigious “I Dare You” leadership award.
Receiving Young Youth Leader Awards were Sophia Nelson and Grace Nelson, Cameron 4-H Club, and Courtney Gengler, Slayton Shooting Stars 4-H Club.
Club secretaries and historians recognized for their contribution and hard work were: Taylor Larson, Prairie Hustlers 4-H Club; Sophia Gaul, Lakers 4-H Club; Megan Surprenant, Ryanna Schreier, Brylei Schreier, Currie Poco-a-Poco 4-H Club; and Dalton DeYonge, Chandler Hilltoppers 4-H Club.
Michelle Zenk, Cameron 4-H Club, was named the 2018-2019 Outstanding Ambassador.
Sophia Gaul, Lakers 4-H Club, received the Agnes Herrig Memorial Food & Nutrition Award for her champion food exhibit at the county fair.
Seventeen adult volunteers were honored for their commitment with a combined 100 years of leadership experience: Jeff Boerboom, Kelly Erb, Blair Hellewell, Tami Hellewell, Michelle Hoekman, Lorna Hulstein, Amy Kathman, Wayne Mouw, Haleigh Ortmeier-Clark, April Post, Grant Post, Paul Posthuma, Matt Surprenant, Kiley Van Eck, Troy Wendland, Linnea Surprenant, and Dave Bau.
Sharon Staples was the recipient of the Friend of 4-H Award. Sharon volunteers many hours for Murray County 4-H each year, including assisting with the annual fundraiser and announcing livestock shows during the county fair.
